We are shadows tight to midnight dancing featherweight on floorboards, the hope of dodging toddler tears swollen by the fact she’s swerved the siesta. Birdsong rendezvous, she’s still getting used to the idea.

An endurance test without the aid of something recreational; walking through dormant mornings with sleepless offspring, head like a hangnail, begging for silence & slumber but it never arrives. Forever passes and the embers of resistance start to smoulder so I rearrange the nest, promoting soporific states and commencing my own yearning for twilit linen. The clock signals tomorrow and I slide into sleep, broken & shattered with you.

Temporary tears delay your entrance to the night, the otherside of daylight ready for your fall but still the stamina in you clings. I loiter at white lines watching red & green alternate until your sleeping breaths are contently exhaled via pretty little lungs conducting symphonies in nightlights.

Where did the day go? The chasing of documents & colleague collision dominated hours like teenage tetris in a bedroom of dreams while teeth couldn’t steal the time to puncture resources and silence my stomach. I infiltrated the gates of midday, lacking cohesion in the weak light of yesterday’s promise but somehow made it to darkness and indulged in night thoughts & the glitter of cinders smouldering within.

Planning ahead with boiling amber in hand & the smell of heavy meadows clinging to linen, I make the bed in which I’ll lay. Foreign, alien, impersonal; the grooves won’t hug like they do at home but everybody knows obstacles are obsolete when you’re bones are running on the fumes of the day & the flickers of the light.
I can’t wait to collapse into a dream.

I slip away from the weekend with smiling slumber in a burning bed. Beautiful.
